Quality Objectives and Planning
Objective means Goal, Aim, purpose or Destination of the desired result. Which you are trying to achieve in the business, in your study, in your life, in your work etc… Everyone is having some objectives in their life. It can be smaller or larger based on their capacity of the thought.
In the clause no.6.2 of the Quality Management System, you need to decide some function wise objectives to achieve the result of main objective of your business i.e. Sales Growth, Customer Satisfaction based on the providing good quality material and on time delivery and continual improvement in the business. This cannot be achieved without process wise objectives. Because that processes are heart of your product or service. Therefore needs to monitor every time whether it is working properly and giving same results to you.

How to identify the Quality Objectives?
Whatever objectives you will define for the particular process that should be SMART; otherwise it will not give you desired results.

Keep in the Mind when you are going to identify the Quality Objectives
- Objectives should be consistent with your Quality Policy
In the previous article we have explained how to prepare your Quality Policy. You should identify the objectives which fulfill your commitment which you are giving to your customer through the policy. i.e. On time delivery of the material, Quality Product, Time to time improvements in the processes, sales growth etc.
- Should be measurable
Whatever objectives you will define that should be measurable based on the timeline and based on the achieved % to understand the results.
- Should be monitored frequently to check the achieved results
Frequently monitoring will show you the gaps or problems and you can rectify them immediately and can move ahead. Otherwise problems can be increase or can be out of your control. Therefore decide the frequency of the monitoring.
- Should be confirm that it is relevant to your Product and services
Objective should be relevant to your product and services which you are providing to your customer. Non relevant objectives will not help to satisfy the customer.
- Should be relevant to increase or enhance the satisfaction level of your customers
While defining the objectives you need to be proactive to identify the requirements of your customer. Forecasting will be help to know the better and check whether you can fulfill them and till which level you can satisfy them. Frequently you need to check whether customer is satisfied with your provided service or product and how you can improve your product and service.
- Should be communicated within the Organization and all processes
Your defined objectives should be communicated within your all employees. They should aware about this, otherwise track can be changed and you will not get the desired result.
- Should be update regularly as per decided frequency
Your results of the objectives and relevant working data should be update regularly to keep the active status
You have to prepare records / working sheets to show the results of your objectives.
Second part of this clause is how you are planning to achieve the particular objective. When you are taking or deciding some objective in your mind, you need to prepare the plan how you are going to be achieved this. What steps you are going to take, what resources you required, what will be the deadline etc. In the business organization when you are deciding process wise objectives the action plans needs to be prepare based on the following steps to achieve your final goal.
Action plan should be made by considering PDCA plan. On the basis of 5 steps the planning should be prepare.
- What will be done – Steps of the plan
- What resources will be required – What is required to achieve your planning
- Who will be responsible
- When it will be completed – Target dates for achieve your plan
- How the results to be evaluated – How you will come to know that objective have been achieved.
