Indian festivals we generally celebrating to increase the unity between one community, one organization or one society. When we are celebrating the festivals within the society or any organization, it is increasing interaction of the peoples, face to face communications and understanding between the peoples. This has been started during the battle of Independence from United Kingdom. National Festivals i.e. An Independence Day and Republic Day is celebration liveliness and passion in the every Indian. This also reminds us of the sacrifice of our great leaders and freedom fighters and makes us more proud of being Indians. 
  • The Indian National Flag hoisting represents the hopes and aspiration of the people of India. It is symbol of our national pride. According to a Supreme Court judgment in 2004, every Indian has the right to fly the national flag freely with respect and dignity.

Size of the Flag

1. The National Flag shall be rectangular in shape.

2. The National Flag shall be made of hand spun and hand woven wool/cotton/silk khadi bunting.

3. The ratio of the length to the height (width) of the Flag shall be 3:2.

4. The standard sizes of the National Flag shall be as mentioned in the table.

Restrictions to use of Emblems

  • There are no restrictions on the display of the National Flag by members of general public, private organizations or educational institutions etc.
  • But no one have the authority to use the Emblems and Names which have been mentioned in the Act,1950* which is called (Prevention of Improper Use). Any emblem, seal, flag, insignia and coat-of-arms or pictorial representation specified in the schedule no one can use without informing to central Government.
  • No person can use these emblems for the purpose of any trade, business, calling or profession or in the title of any patent or any trade mark of design without the permission of the Central Government.  
  • The Indian national Flag has been specified as an emblem in the schedule to the Act.

Position of the Flag

  1. The Flag shall not be flown at half-mast except on occasions on which the Flag is flown at half – mast on public building accordance with instructions issued by the Government.
  2. Otherwise it can be a insults to National Honor.   

Display of the National Flag

  1. Whenever the National Flag is displayed, it should be occupy the position of honor and should be distinctly placed.
  2. The Flag shall not be use as cover a speaker’s desk nor it shall be draped over a speaker’s platform.
  3. While hoisting the flag, the saffron band must always be displayed as the topmost band on the right.
  4. The Tri color should always be hoisted in a place of power from sunrise to sunset. Where the Flag is displayed in open, it should as far as possible be flown from sunrise to sunset, irrespective of weather conditions. 
  5. A damaged or disheveled Flag shall not be displayed.
  6. The Flag shall not be intentionally allowed to touch the ground or the floor or trail in water.
  7. The Flag shall not be used as covering of the building.

How to dispose a damaged Flag

1.  When the Flag is in a damaged or soiled condition, it shall be destroyed as a whole in private preferably by burning or by any other method consistent with the dignity of the Flag.

2. The damaged Flag should be destroyed as a whole. The fire should consume entire Flag. This is to ensure that partially burnt Flag does not remain. One has to ensure privacy while disposing off the damaged Flag. Ensure that nobody is around preferably in a remote place.

3.  Proper and dignified disposal of damaged Flag is equally important as respecting one in good condition. It is our Fundamental Duty to respect our National Symbols.

4. Insults to the national flag are punishable by law with imprisonment up to three years, or a fine, or both.

1.The managing committee in any apartment complex should take up the responsibility of ensuring that all these rules are fully followed.

2. Apart from the managing committee, it is also important for every resident in the society to be aware of these rules so that no misuse occurs, in any condition.
